When old texture has to go, when a wall has been patched too many times, or when you just want a clean modern smooth-wall look — we skim coat the entire surface and bring it back to flat.
Skim coating is the step that separates a paint job that looks good in photos from a paint job that looks good in person. We trowel a thin layer of joint compound across the entire wall, knock it down flat, sand it smooth, and prime — so when the finish coat goes on, every flaw under raking light is already gone.
The most common reasons people call us for skimming: they want to get rid of dated knockdown or orange peel texture, they pulled wallpaper off and the paper face of the drywall came with it, or a wall has been patched in so many places that no amount of touch-up paint can hide the seams. All three are textbook skim-coat jobs.
We're set up for low-dust sanding — drop cloths, plastic on doorways, and pole sanders with vacuum attachments — so you don't end up with a fine layer of drywall dust on every horizontal surface in the house. When the skim is done we can prime and paint right away, or hand the walls off ready for your painter.
